In addition to logging carried out over winter 2012 / 2013, this FALL Spray Lake Sawmills is planning to clear cut an even bigger area of trees in the West Bragg Creek area of Kananaskis Country.
The new clear cut operation is planned to cover West Bragg Creek to Station Flats.
These logging cut blocks will be located directly next to or surrounding at least 25 kms of recreational ski, cycling, equestrian, hiking and snowshoeing trails.
Logging operations are planned to start this fall (2013).
This logging will have a direct and irreversible impact on the local trails. The stakeholder group is once again making no progress in discussing these plans.
While Government consultation on land use in this region is in progress (the development of the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan (SSRP)) there should be no new clear-cut logging.
Over 1 million Albertans and tourists visit this region of Kananaskis every year yet, there is still no public consultation for logging plans in place.
