did you know?

Spray Lake Sawmills is planning to clear cut over 700 hectares of trees in the West Bragg Creek area of Kananaskis Country?

That can also be measured as:

  • 1,700 acres
  • 7 square kilometers
  • 7 million square meters - that’s enough space to easily fit 7 million people!
  • 1,300 football fields

This logging is planned to start this upcoming summer( 2012) and is expected to take about 9 months to complete.

These logging cut blocks will be located directly next to or surrounding at least 25 kms of recreational ski, cycling, equestrian, hiking and snowshoeing trails.

This logging will have a direct and irreversible impact on 90% of the local trails.

Over 1 million Albertans and tourists visit this region of Kananaskis every year yet almost none of them have been informed of the imminent plans to log.

Our local SRD representatives are now making decisions about the logging company's proposed plan. Write to them asking them to hold a facilitated public consultation before they make their decision. Morgan Kehr -morgan.kehr@gov.ab.ca

Please cc your local SRD letter to Minister McQueen, Premier Redford and CC info@sustaink.ca including permission to table your letter in the legislature (optional)
